How many accounts of actual stonings are there in the Bible? I suspect that not too much of it actually happened because is sure isn't mentioned much.

JW Culture has Changed!
by Amazing inin the late 1960s, i became a jw.
there was a sense of intellectual freedom and more openness to discuss various spiritual and even some social topics.
there was reliance on watch tower literature as an authority, but still the soiciety seem to confine its concerns and left the rest up to individual jws to decide.

My comments related strictly to the public speakers in the congregations. The only thing I've seen monitored at Circuit Assemblies is time. I suppose if you dropped a real clanger the CO or DO might say something about it. Certainly the DO would recognize significant deviation from the outline since he has to set through the things 20 plus times. District Conventions are completely different. Every talk is closely monitored, and every speaker or the head of every part is supposed to report in immediately after the part to see if everything was OK. They get a little testy if you don't show up. And if something's wrong and they have to come find you, then they get real testy.

JT your comments are interesting. I can see how things could happen that way and maybe some congregations have had the practice. Personally, I've given many public talks and as far as I can tell I have never been monitored. Staying with the outline has never been something that was important to me so there has been ample opportunity to raise the issue. One guy did try to give me some grief because I read something out of one of Ariel Durant's books and one took exception to a comment I made about 1975 but that's about it.

This stuff about monitoring the public speaker is complete nonsenes. There are no such instruction and there is no such practice. As far as quoting from the outline, etc. there were specific instruction three or four years ago not to do that. I don't know where some of you get this stuff.

A New Breed Of JW Emerging?
by Englishman inis there a new breed of jw emerging, i wonder?.
i know that there are lots of real brainwashed dubs around who see demons behind every car boot sale item and who scuttle off to the elders with every bit of tittle-tattle imaginable, but, i think that there is a new type of dub who quietly does just as he / she pleases.. this is what i think: many of the long-serving jw's who have seen the 1975 failure and the 1914 generation change are now approaching old age with something of a jaundiced eye, and are choosing to do their own thing in their remaining years.
in conversations i am picking up it seems that the elders are being regarded somewhat derisively by many jw's.

I have observed all then things mentioned here in my congregation and the neighboring ones. Howeve, I'm wondering how long the thaw is going to last. I understand that the US COs just got a rocket up the rear end and are now doing the same thing to the local bodies. They're starting to beat the drums again. Course, not so many may be prepared to march.

CO Meeting
by Pork Chop inthe co announced that there would be a meeting with the elders saturday afternoon in addition to the usual friday night meeting.
is that happening in other congregations?
if it is, any idea what it's about?
-

Nope, none of that sounds right. The regular MS and the Elders meeting is Friday night, and they're supposed to bring their KS books, Bibles and a notepad on Saturday so it's not the usual run of things.
